Steadfastness in the Face of Hardship
It is really hard for moslem of today to imagine, much less to bear or even to attemp to bear, the hardships that were bome by Rasulullah Muhammad SAW and his illustrious shahabah in the path of Allah SWT.

Books of history are full of stories of their sufferings. It is a pity that we are so careless of those events and our knowledge is so poor in this regard. These are stories about Rasululllah Muhammad SAW, to get blessing of Allah SWT which is sure to come when his is mentioned.

Rasulullah Journeys to Tha'if
For nine years, since his declaration by Allah SWT as Rasulullah SAW had been delivering the message of Allah SWT in Mecca and make great efforts to guide and reform his community. Except a few person who had either embraced Islam or who helped him, though not accepting Islam, all the rest in Mecca left no stone unturned in persecuting and making fun of him and shahabah. His uncle Abu Thalib was one of those kindhearted people who help him, in spite of his not accepting Islam.

The following year, on the death og Abu Thalib, the Quraisy got a free hand in stopping people from accepting Islam and harming the Moslems. Tha'if is the second biggest town od Hijaz, there lived Bani Thaqif -- a clan strong in number. Rasulullah Muhammad SAW left for tha'if in the hope of winning them to over to Islam, thus saving the Moslems from the persecution of the Quraisy, and also establishing a base for the future propagation of Islam. On reaching tha'if he visit the three chiefs of the clans separately, and placed before each of them the message of Allah SWT, and called upon them to stand by his side. Instead of accepting his message, they refused even to listen to him and not with standing the famous Arab hostpitality, each of them treated him most insultingly and rudely. They plainly told him that they did not like Rasullah SAW stay their town.

The Nabi Rasullah Muhammad SAW has expected a polite , event a cordial treatment and due cortesy in conversation  from them as tey were the heads of clans. But one of them said "Hey ... !!! Allah has made you as nabi !" The other said with derision "Could Allah not lay his hand on anyone else, other than you, to make him as his Rasul?" The third one said "I do not want to talk to you, for in you are in fact a nabi then to oppose you is to invite trouble, and if you only pretend to be one, why should I talk with an imposter?"

Rasulullah SAW, who was a rock of steadfastness did not lost hearh over this treatment from the chiefs, tried to approach the common people; but nobody would listen to him. Instead they ask him to clear off  from their town and go wherever else he liked. When he realized that further efforts were of no use, he decided to leave the town. But they won't let him leave in peace, and set the street children after him to hiss, make fun of him, to stone him. He was, so pelted with stone that his body along with his shoes was covered with blood. He left the town in this pitable state. When he was far out of the town, and safe from mischief-monger, he made du'a (pray) to Allah SWT thus :

O my Allah, to you I complain of my weakness, and lack of resources and my being unimportant in eyes of peoples. O Most mercyfull of all those who show mercy. You are the lord of the weak, and you are my own lord. Whom are you turning me over to? to a stranger who makes an angry face at me, or to an enemy whom you are given control over me?  If you are not angry at me then I do not care, still I find more room for my self in Your making think easy for me, I seek shelter from your anger and displeasure in Your Nuur; the Nuur by which all darknesses light up and by which everything in this world and the akhirah becomes well. It is necessary to remove  the cause of Your anger until You are pleased, and the other than You there is no strenght nor power.
The Masters of the universe was moved by this du'a, and the angel Jibril Alayhis Salam (AS), appeared before Rasulullah Muhammad SAW greeting him with Assalamu 'Alaykum Warahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu and: "Allah SWT knows all that has passed between you and these people. He has deputed an angel in charge of the mountain to be at your command."

Saying this Jibril AS presented the angel before Rasulullah SAW. The angel greeted Rasululullah SAW and said "I am at your service. If you wish I can, I ca command the mountains ovelooking this own town  on both side to collide with each other, so all the people between them would be crushed to death, or you may suggest any other punisment for them."

The Mercifull and noble Nabi Muhammad SAW said: "Even if these people do not accept Islam, I do hope from Allah SWT that there will be persons from among theits descendant who would worship Allah SWT and serve his cause."

Note: Such was the conduct of our noble Rasulullah SAW whom we claim to follow! We get so much irritated over a little trouble or mere abuse from somebody that we keep and taking our revenge throughout our lives in every possible manner. Is this proper for people who claim to follow the generous nabi SAW ? Lock , even after so much suffering at the hands of the Tha'if mob, he neither curses them nor does he wish for any revenge, even when he has the full opportunity to do so.
